Emergency Services & Divisions

Administration

The mission of the Norristown Fire Department is to save lives and protect property through Prevention, Preparedness, Education and Response. We are a combination fire department consisting of approximately 50 Pennsylvania State and Nationally Certified Firefighters. The Department consists of the following individuals:

Fire & Rescue Services

In addition to firefighting, the department provides heavy rescue and water rescue services to Norristown and surrounding municipalities. The Department participates in the Pennsylvania Fire Service Certification Program and the Voluntary Rescue Service Recognition Program. The purpose of these Certification Programs is to identify and recognize emergency service personnel whose accomplishments in training and education meets or exceeds NFPA standards for the Fire Service. Professional Qualifications identify the minimum requirements for a person at a particular level of progression. A person certified to one of the Fire Service Professional levels will have demonstrated competency in the knowledge and skills required to perform at a particular level. The service that is offered to the citizens of Norristown and surrounding communities will be enhanced by the professional competency attained through this certification process. In addition, a number of our firefighters also respond and train with the Southeastern Montgomery County Technical Rescue Task Force, which is a collaborative effort between Upper Merion, Lower Merion and Norristown Fire Departments, providing professional technical rescue services.

Fire Inspections

Fire Inspection Checklist

The Norristown Fire Department’s Fire Safety Inspection Program is designed to promote a proactive approach to fire safety through prevention. Our career firefighters are also certified fire inspectors. They conduct fire safety inspections with the goal of identifying existing hazards to life and property, and to provide explanations on how to mitigate any fire hazard found.  In addition, they also ensure that each property is compliant with the adopted International Fire Code. Fire inspectors also ensure that emergency contact information is up to date, along with any other key information that can be use in the event of an emergency at a specific location.  Business owners and residents can always update emergency contact information by submitting updates to: NFDinfoupdates@Norristown.org. You may also print the Occupancy Information Form, linked below, and mail it to the Norristown Fire Department at 235 E. Airy St, Norristown, PA 19401, or fax it to (610) 292-8090.
