Whether fighting fires, servicing the fire apparatus, or volunteering in any other role, you would be a vital member of the NFD. All members do their part to keep each company running smoothly, so we can be prepared to help the community with any emergency. NFD provides the following to all members:
  • All necessary protective equipment and uniforms
  • Fire training and access to our in-house training facility
  • Life insurance and low interest loans to qualified volunteers
  • Sleeping accommodations within each station
  • Junior Firefighter program starting at the age of 16
  • Career opportunity and a chance to earn additional points on the Entry Level Firefighter Examination

Norristown Professional Firefighters - Local 2335
Each applicant for the position of Firefighter must present proof of the following at the time of application:
  1. Firefighter Level II Certification in accordance with the NFPA 1001.
  2. Haz Mat Ops Certification within the last 12 Months in accordance with NFPA 472.
  3. Emergency Vehicle Operations – Fire Apparatus or equivalent.
  4. Pump Operations course or equivalent.
Any applicant who meets the general requirements above and who has actively served as a volunteer within the Norristown Fire Department for at least 12 months prior to the time of application, and who was on scene for at least 10% of his/her member company emergency calls shall receive an additional 5 points on top of their total score if the applicant receives a passing score on all of the required examinations. A letter by the Chief of the NFD confirming such services must be submitted.
